Tiger may add event to break cut record

With a nod to the musty old history book, it's possible that Florida golf fans might get an unexpected double dose of Tiger Woods later this month.

Woods, who is expected to play at the Funai Classic at Walt Disney World on Oct. 23-26, told Golf Confidential on Tuesday that he also conceivably might add Tampa's Chrysler Classic, held the following week.

Woods is on pace to tie the six-decade-old PGA Tour record for most consecutive cuts with his 113th in a row at Disney, where he hasn't officially committed but has played every year since turning pro.

Because Woods only is set to play at the season-ending Tour Championship thereafter, it creates an interesting dilemma of sorts.

The Tour Championship is a no-cut event with a limited field of 30 players. Though it counts toward extending the streak, it doesn't generate quite the same oomph of breaking Byron Nelson's mark at a full-field event with a true 36-hole cut. To set a significant record there could be a tad anticlimactic.

Woods - who said he hasn't paid much notice to his mounting streak, which stands at 111 in a row - seemed slightly intrigued by the notion of adding Tampa after playing a practice round Tuesday at the World Golf Championships American Express Championship.

"I've never really thought about that," he said. "I didn't know what the number was."
