FALDO TO HEAD ALL-STAR CAST IN
THE ABU DHABI DESERT!

Nick Faldo heads foreign legion of Tour Pro's teeing off in the first ever high profile tournament to be played on sand!

A ground breaking new tournament is now unveiled with Nick Faldo heading an all-star cast of 32 European Tour pro's, including fellow Major winner Ian Woosnam, Ryder Cup players Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley and Jean Van de Velde and young English star Ian Poulter. The Abu Dhabi World Sand Golf Championship is a brand new event, which will see some of the world's leading golfers play the game like they have never played it before….entirely on sand!
This unique pro-am event will take place on March 8th 2004 at Abu Dhabi's Al Ghazal Golf Course, one of the world's leading Desert courses with fairways sculpted from sand and 'browns' as opposed to 'greens'. The par 71, 6600 yard course will be a challenging experience for Faldo et al, and they are sure to be tested by the famous 'browns' characterised by their uniquely true and fast roll.

Faldo is already excited about taking part in this innovative tournament. "Being involved in course design, I have been able to play golf all over the world and on various styles of course. However I have not yet had the opportunity to play on sand, and am therefore really looking forward to experiencing it first hand in Abu Dhabi" he commented.

The Abu Dhabi World Sand Golf Championship is sure to capture the imagination of the golfing fraternity worldwide. TV pictures and images of some of the European Tours top professionals playing in conditions like they have never played before will be sent around the globe. The organisers are promising a few surprises too, but all will be revealed at the official press conference at Al Ghazal golf club this weekend hosted by his Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nayhan, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation in Abu Dhabi.
