Seve backs Ryder Cup selection process

"I think that the current system of the top five in the European points list and the top five from the world rankings gaining automatic qualification is pretty fair," said the Spanish legend Seve Ballesteros

"The process of selection is correct, and anyway the most important thing is to have the players who are in form at the time in the team for the Ryder Cup week.

"And let's not forget that Europe have been very successful in the competition."

Seve is also unhappy about the length of the event.

"I do not understand why the cannot find an extra day for the Ryder Cup," he said.

"The schedule is so tight that many players are exhausted by the final day, especially the Europeans because we tend to rotate the foursome and fourball pairings far less than the Americans do."
