Teams set for "Battle at the Bridges"
Tiger Woods is going prime-time with three of the longest hitters in golf this summer in the ``Battle at the Bridges,'' the latest version of Monday Night Golf.
Woods will join John Daly, Phil Mickelson and Hank Kuehne in a better-ball match Aug. 2 at the Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe. The exhibition will be televised by ABC Sports at 8 p.m. EST.
``Each year we try to find something different to appeal to our prime-time audience,'' said Alastair Johnston, president of promoter IMG. ``This year, we have assembled a field with exceptional length and skill that will appeal to all sports fans.''
The winners will get $500,000 apiece, with $200,000 going to each losing player. Six holes will feature a long-drive contest, with the winning team getting $50,000 to give to a charity of their choice.
The made-for-TV exhibitions began in 1999 when Woods defeated David Duval in an 18-hole match. Subsequent matches have included players from the Champions Tour and LPGA Tour.
A year ago, Mickelson and Sergio Garcia defeated Woods and Ernie Els in the Monday night exhibition.
