John Daly vaults 214 spots in World Rankings
John Daly has jumped 214 positions to world number 85 in the latest rankings issued on Monday following his playoff victory in the Buick Invitational.
Daly's victory on Sunday was his first win on the PGA Tour in nine years and earned him $864,000, the biggest cheque of his career.
The 37-year-old American beat Briton Luke Donald and fellow American Chris Riley in the playoff with a birdie at the first playoff hole, the long 18th.
He has had a colourful career since the second of his major victories in the 1995 British Open at St Andrews with problems with alcohol and gambling.
His current wife, Daly's fourth, was indicted on drug and gambling charges last year.
Tiger Woods still leads the rankings (13.15 points average) after finishing joint 10th, two shots off Daly's 10-under-par total, but world number two Vijay Singh (10.24) failed to make the cut at Torrey Pines.
