US Amateur Champion to turn professional
US amateur champion Nick Flanagan has is to turn professional after the Open championship.
"I've written to the Irish and Scandinavian Opens to try to get exemptions, they are on in the following two weeks after I turn pro on July 19," said Flanagan.
"I have seven exemptions in the US but it will be very hard to do. Tiger Woods did it and one or two others but you've virtually got to win a tournament and do very well in all the others to get your card."
"Going on the way I played last summer, playing in those big tournaments, I just felt ready to compete, I felt comfortable," added Flanagan.
"Playing with Adam Scott, Els and Jarrod Moseley definitely helped my confidence and playing well with those guys has given me a good indication of where I am at.
"Playing the US Masters felt really great, I wasn't overawed, playing over the summer and knowing pretty much everything that happens.
"I felt like that helped me out but the ANZ was probably the biggest indication."
