Jim Furyk out for at least 3 months after surgery
U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk had surgery on his left wrist and will be out of action for at least three months.
If he is unable to defend his U.S. Open title, Furyk would become the second champion in the last five years not to return. Payne Stewart was killed in a plane crash four months after winning the 1999 U.S. Open.
Furyk could possibly miss up to six months, forcing him to miss all the major championships this year.
Furyk tied the 72-hole record of 272 when he won the U.S. Open at Olympia Fields outside Chicago.
