Sergio Garcia vaults back up rankings
Sergio Garcia claimed his fourth title on the US PGA Tour and his first since 2002 when he beat Robert Damron and Dudley Hart in a sudden-death play-off to win the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. Garcia moves to World Number 17 and to 3rd in the European Ryder Cup World Points List. For a second successive week Tiger Woods finished one shot out of the playoff in tied fourth and his lead over Vijay Singh at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings is now 2.62 points.
The European Tour's first official visit to mainland China for the BMW Asian Open, co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour, provided a well-known face as champion as Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenezcaptured his third title of the 2004 season at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club. Jimenez is now World Number 35 and lies 2nd in the European Ryder Cup World Points List.
Korean S K Howon the PGA Championship on the Japan Golf Tour and moves up to World Number 127, a rise of 44 places.
Jason Higtonwon the Corona Ixtapa Classic on the Canadian Tour picking up World Ranking points for a second successive week and climbing to World Number 502
