Michelin to sponsor PGA Las Vegas event
The Las Vegas Founders Club announced Wednesday that Michelin, the world's top tire manufacturer whose products can be found on vehicles ranging from bicycles to the Space Shuttle, has become the title sponsor of its PGA Tour tournament to be held Oct. 4-10, 2004. Michelin North America has an option to extend the relationship through 2006.
At a press conference in Las Vegas, tournament chairman John Sullivan announced that the event has been renamed the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas and unveiled the new tournament logo. Joining Sullivan for the announcement were John Tully, director of Community Relations, Michelin North America, and Rob Ohno, PGA Tour vice president, Business Development.
"Michelin is proud to sponsor the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas as part of our support of deserving charities in more than 215 communities throughout the United States," said Tully. "Working together with consumers, tire dealers and Michelin employees, we know we can help the Las Vegas community find a better way forward."
"I am delighted that Michelin has chosen the PGA Tour to enrich its relationship with consumers in North America," said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. "We couldn't be happier to welcome Michelin as the Tour's newest title sponsor."
"The Founders Club is thrilled to begin a partnership with a company whose brand name and reputation for quality are as strong as Michelin," Sullivan said. "Combining an industry-leader like Michelin with the greatest golfers in the world should make for an exciting week in Las Vegas. However, we are particularly pleased that Michelin's commitment to charitable giving will enable the Las Vegas Founders to ensure that the less fortunate within our community will continue to be the real winners of the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas."
