Mickelson pulls out of Amex Championship

World number four Phil Mickelson withdrew on Thursday from the WGC-American Express Championship being held in Kilkenny, Ireland next week.

A member of Mickelson's management team told Reuters that the U.S. Masters champion was tired following last week's Ryder Cup in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Mickelson picked up one point out of a possible four as his U.S. team were handed an 18 1/2-9 1/2 drubbing by Europe.

The left hander was tied for 43rd at the WGC-NEC Invitational and 57th at the Canadian Open, his worst performances of the year, leading up to the Ryder Cup.

It is unclear when Mickelson will be in action again.
