Montgomerie vows to qualify for Troon
Colin Montgomerie vowedMonday to qualify for the Open Championship in his home town of Troon after changing his mind about taking part if he didn't automatically qualify.
He said: "There are a few ways to go and I'll be trying my damnedest to get in through Loch Lomond and also the European Open.
"If that doesn't happen, there is qualifying down at Sunningdale and I think I'll go down there."
"It's a bit of a problem really, I haven't had this problem for about 13 or 14 years."
And he indicated that he had every intention of going through qualifying at Sunningdale if necessary.
"I might as well," he said. "It would be crazy not to.
"There are 12 spots and I should manage to get a place in the top 12, so I will see what happens.
"I know the course and it would be nice to play there, especially having lived there.
"But if it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out. I might get back in next year."
"It will come back again - there is no question of that," he added. "It is just a case of when."
