Colin Montgomerie in danger of missing majors
Colin Montgomerie is on the verge of missing out on an automatic qualification place for two of the sport's major championships — next month's US Open, and July's British Open, which takes place on the Scot's home course of Royal Troon.
Montgomerie's 16th place finish in the British Masters concluded on Sunday — his first tournament following the collapse of his marriage — saw him drop from 45th to 49th in the world rankings.
He needs to be in the top 50 to be exempt for the next two majors.
But Montgomerie, 40, who has yet to win one of the four majors — the Open, US Open, US Masters and US PGA Championship — was unconcerned. "If I'm not in them I'm not in them — I will have a week with my children," he said on Monday.
"It's the furthest from my mind right now."
