Top European Tour players miss out on Open

Ian Woosnam and Jose Maria Olazabal are the latest big names to miss out on a place in this week's Open at Troon.

Neither of the two ex-Masters champions did well enough in the Scottish Open to earn a final qualifying place.

It is the first time Woosnam, who has finished third in The Open twice, has missed the British major since 1981.

The only occasion Olazabal has been an absentee since his debut in 1984 was eight years ago when he was suffering with suspected rheumatoid arthritis.

The pair follow Bernhard Langer, Justin Rose and injured trio Jesper Parnevik, Tom Watson and Fred Couples as absentees from the year's third major.

Argentina's Angel Cabrera, the world number 36, also missed out on The Open after a 75 in his final round at the Scottish Open.
