Another trio pull out of PGA Championship

Former U.S. Masters winner Fred Couples has pulled out of this week's U.S. PGA Championship with a back injury, organisers said on Tuesday.

American Couples has been replaced in the 156-strong field at Whistling Straits by compatriot Ben Crane.

Couples is the ninth player to withdraw from the fourth and final major championship of the year starting on Thursday.

Australian Elkington, champion at Riviera in 1995, has aggravated a groin muscle strain while American Nelson, winner in 1981 and 1987, has a wrist injury.

Their places in the 156-strong field are taken up by Americans Joe Ogilvie and Woody Austin, the seventh and eighth alternates.

Nick Price, U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen, Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, Toshimitsu Izawa of Japan and Americans Tom Watson and Jeff Maggert have also all withdrawn
