Allianz extend tournament sponsorship

The Champions Tour and Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life) Monday announced the extension of Allianz Life's title sponsorship of the Allianz Championship for two years through 2007.

The 2005 Allianz Championship will be played May 30 – June 5 at the Arnold Palmer-designed Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City, Iowa, which was recently named one of Golf Digest's "Top 10 New Upscale Courses" in America. Since the tournament's inception in 2001, it has been conducted at Glen Oaks Country Club in the Des Moines area.

"Today's announcement continues the very positive trend of Champions Tour title sponsorship extensions," said Champions Tour President Rick George. "I'm joined by the players in thanking Allianz Life for their commitment to the Champions Tour and the Allianz Championship. In four short years, the tournament has established itself as one of Iowa's most popular events and a leading benefactor of charity throughout the state. With Allianz Life's support, the opportunities to grow and have an even bigger impact in the coming years are enhanced.

Commenting on the extension agreement, Mark Zesbaugh, Allianz Life president and CEO said, "In addition to providing assistance to people in need, our relationship with the Champions Tour is an exceptional opportunity for Allianz Life to bring a high quality event to the people of Iowa and golf fans everywhere. We're very pleased to extend our sponsorship of the Allianz Championship."

"Allianz has been a terrific title sponsor for our Champions Tour event," said tournament director Jeff Starr. "The tournament staff and Iowa Golf Charities have a lot to be excited about as a result of this announcement and the move to our new host site, the Tournament Club of Iowa."

The 2004 Allianz Championship raised approximately $160,000 for Iowa Golf Charities, bringing the tournament's four-year charitable donations total to over $600,000. Iowa Golf Charities, the tournament's charitable arm, benefits a variety of organizations throughout the state of Iowa.
