Champions Tour use idea from Tour de France

Taking a cue from the Tour De France, the caddie for the Charles Schwab Cup leader will wear a special yellow caddie bib each week when he carries the bag for the current points leader at each of the Champions Tour's official events in 2005.

The program began last week at The ACE Group Classic in Naples and will continue this week at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in Tampa when Hale Irwin's caddie dons the yellow vest. The bib will identify the tournament sponsor on the front and ‘Charles Schwab Cup Points Leader’ on the back, along with the player’s name.

With a win and two other top-three finishes to his credit thus far in 2005, Irwin leads the chase for the $1 million first-prize annuity with 463 points. He holds a 59-point lead over last week’s leader Dana Quigley. Irwin was the 2002 and 2004 Charles Schwab Cup Champion.

The Charles Schwab Cup is a season-long points-based program designed to identify the Champion’s Tour leading player. The program rewards top finishes week in and week out at all 28 official/Charles Schwab Cup events.
