Funk & DiMarco win CVS Charity Classic
Fred Funk rolled in a 25-foot putt on the 17th hole en route to winning the CVS Charity Classic Tuesday with partner Chris DiMarco at Rhode Island Country Club.
Funk and DiMarco shot a combined 62 for a two-day total of 19-under 123 at the best-ball, medal-play tournament and won the $250,000 first prize.
The teams of Dana and Brett Quigley and Brad Faxon and Sergio Garcia tied for second at 17-under 125.
DiMarco bogeyed the par-3, 145-yard 17th, but Funk's birdie putt put the team 18-under. DiMarco clinched the victory with a 22-foot birdie putt on No. 18.
``After I bogeyed on 17, Fred's putt for bird was the key putt today,'' said DiMarco, who finished second this year to Tiger Woods in the Masters.
Funk and DiMarco birdied the 11th and 12th holes and then managed only par on holes 13 through 16.
Faxon and Garcia had birdies on three of the last four holes, including Garcia's 18-footer on the 18th.
Arnold Palmer and teammate Billy Andrade finished last in the 10-team field with a 36-hole total of 134.
