Ernie Els aiming to return at Sun City event
Ernie Els will return to competitive golf in December, ending a four-month injury layoff by playing in the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City.
The two-time U.S. Open champion and 2002 British Open winner injured his left knee while sailing in the Mediterranean in July.
Nedbank tournament director Alistair Roper confirmed Els' participation in the 12-man field for the event at the Gary Player Country Club from Dec. 1-4.
``When I called him yesterday he was playing nine holes of golf and said he felt great,'' Roper said Thursday.
Fifth-ranked Els of South Africa will join five other players from the top 10 -- compatriot Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk and Chris DiMarco of the United States, Sergio Garcia of Spain and Adam Scott of Australia -- in the tournament.
The other players are Tim Clark of South Africa, Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, Luke Donald of England, Kenny Perry and Stewart Cink of the United States, and Angel Cabrera of Argentina.
