Field set for PGA Grand Slam of Golf
PGA Champion Phil Mickelson, who marched to victory Mon., Aug. 15, at Baltusrol Golf Club to earn his second major championship, and Retief Goosen, who finished among the top performers in this year's major championships, will complete the foursome for the 23rd PGA Grand Slam of Golf, Nov. 22-23, at Poipu Bay Golf Course & Grand Hyatt Kauai in Hawaii.
Mickelson won the 87th PGA Championship and returns as the defending champion in his second overall appearance in the 23rd PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Goosen will make his third appearance.
Goosen finished No. 1 on the Major Champions Points List with 288.83 points while Vijay Singh was second with 273.16 points. Goosen and Mickelson will meet Masters and British Open Champion Tiger Woods and U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell in the year's showdown of major champions. It will be Woods' seventh overall appearance in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
Goosen's major championship season included a tie for third in the Masters, a share of 11th in the U.S. Open, a tie for fifth in the British Open and tied for sixth in the 87th PGA Championship. He was runner-up in the 2001 PGA Grand Slam of Golf and finished third in 2004.
The major champions points list is composed of past major champions who competed in the 2005 majors. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a total purse of $1 million, with the Champion earning $400,000.
