Padraig Harrington moves up to World No.6

Ireland's Padraig Harrington moved up two spots to sixth in the world rankings following his playoff victory in the Honda Classic on Sunday.

The 33-year-old Dubliner sank a four-foot putt for par at the second extra hole to edge out world number two Vijay Singh at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and clinch his first PGA Tour title.

Harrington, who set up his breakthrough win with a blistering nine-under-par 63 in the final round, dislodged Spaniard Sergio Garcia in the global pecking order.

Garcia did not play last week and slipped to number eight.

"I've been losing world ranking points and I've been patiently saying: 'Wait till I get my chance'," Harrington told reporters at the Country Club at Mirasol.

"It's nice to build my points up and it gets me right back up there. I'm not quite breathing down the necks of the top five and there is a little bit of a step (up). But I'm in position to catch them up."

There was no change at the top of the rankings where Tiger Woods remained at one for a second consecutive week, Singh at two, Ernie Els at three, U.S. Masters champion Phil Mickelson at four and U.S. Open title-holder Retief Goosen at five.

However, Els, who stormed to a one-shot victory with a final-round 65 at the European Tour's Qatar Masters, has closed the gap on Singh to just 0.35 ranking points.

World ranking points are accumulated over a two-year period, with points awarded in the most recent 13-week spell doubled.

Each player is ranked according to his average points per tournament, points being weighted according to the status of the event and strength of the field.
