Laura Davies headlines LET season start

European number one Laura Davies from England will start her defence of the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour order of merit title at the season opening $200,000 Singapore Ladies Masters at Laguna National GC from February 3-5.

Davies, six times the European number one and winner of 66 titles in her 20-year career, heads a strong field which includes five winners from the 2004 season including compatriot Trish Johnson, Swedes Cecilia Ekelundh and Maria Hjorth, Elisabeth Esterl from Germany and Ryder Cup Wales rookie of the Year Minea Blomqvist from Finland.

Davies, who will represent England with team mate Karen Stupples in the Women's World Cup of Golf the week following Singapore, will hope to add to her remarkable tally and continue her run of winning at least one event in each year of her career.

The US$200,000 Singapore Ladies Master s will be the first event of the 2005 LET Schedule and will be co-sanctioned with the Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LA G T) and the Korean Ladies Professional Golfers Association (KLPGA).

Format of play will be stroke play over three rounds with the Tournament field consisting of 144 players with a minimum of 60 players qualifying directly from the Ladies European Tour, 40 players will be selected from the Ladies Asian Golf Tour and 40 leading professionals selected by the KLPGA from their 2004 Order of Merit.

The event will follow the Caltex Masters on the men's European Tour, which will be played at the same venue.
