Sandy Lyle disappointed with Ryder Cup snub
Sandy Lyle looks to have given up on ever captaining the European Ryder Cup side after losing out to Ian Woosnam.
The Scot, who missed out with Woosnam when Bernhard Langer was appointed for Oakland Hills, was also dubious about the decision to name Nick Faldo as captain for 2008 in the United States.
The 46-year-old said: "I don't know why they have done two in one fell swoop - they have never done it before and there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge yet. Basically that's it for me now, I think."
He added that he thought it unlikely that he would be called into action as one of the Welshman's assistants at the K Club next year.
"He's already said there's going to be a vice-captain from Ireland and I think his two strongest pals are DJ Russell and Peter Baker. I'll have to fill in some divot holes for him on the practice range."
The former Open and Masters champion is playing in the Dubai Desert Classic this week and he got his opening round off to a flying start with four straight birdies but a double-bogey seven at the 18th - his 10th - and a brace of bogeys saw him end on a one-under 71.
