Phil Mickelson goes Italian for Masters meal

Phil Mickelson's guests at the Masters Tournament Champions Dinner, where previous meals have included sheep entrails and elk, will feast on lobster ravioli in cream tomato sauce this year.

The dinner, held two days before the tournament begins April 7 at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, is attended by other winners.

The reigning champion selects the menu, and pays the bill. "I'm very basic with a little Italian in my background," the 34-year-old Californian said.

The Masters tradition dates back to 1952 when Ben Hogan hosted the first champions dinner. Since then, some of the dining experiences have been more memorable than others.

After winning the 1988 Masters, Britain's Sandy Lyle served up haggis the following year while Fiji's 2000 champion Vijay Singh dished up one of the most popular meals with a Thai menu.

For the less adventurous, past champions can also order off the Augusta National Golf Club's menu.

Tiger Woods treated former winners to a meal of hamburgers and milkshakes after he won the first of his three green jackets in 1997.

Left-hander Mickelson will defend his Masters title at Augusta from April 7-10.
