2006 Nationwide Tour Schedule announced
The 2006 Nationwide Tour will feature 31 tournaments in 22 states and three countries in 2006, tour officials have announced.
Purses on the developmental circuit will total almost $17 million, a new record. Nine events will feature purses of at least $600,000 with 21 playing for $500,000 or more. Sixteen of them will be televised on The Golf Channel.
"We are very pleased with our lineup for the 2006 season," said Nationwide Tour Chief of Operations Bill Calfee. "We have a solid core of tournaments that continue to grow in stature every year, along with several new events that we feel will quickly become fixtures in their markets."
The circuit kicks off in late January with three international events, the Movistar Panama Championship in Panama City, Panama; the Jacob's Creek Open Championship in Adelaide, Australia; and the ING New Zealand PGA Championship in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The domestic portion of the tour begins in March with the Chitimacha Louisiana Open in Broussard, La., and ends in mid-November with the Nationwide Tour Championship in Houston.
The circuit includes three new events: the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Athens Regional Foundation Classic in Georgia and the PalmettoPride Classic in Charleston, S.C. And back for a 17th year are four events that were on the original Nationwide Tour schedule in 1990: the Knoxville Open, the Price Cutter Charity Championship, the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open and the Albertsons Boise Open.
