Jose Maria Olazabal to Captain in Seve Trophy

Jose Maria Olazabal will take over the captaincy of the Continental Europe team in the 2005 Seve Trophy tournament. The Ryder Cup-style event pitting Continental Europe against a team from Great Britain & Ireland is set for Sept. 22-25 at The Wynyard Club in England.

Seve Ballesteros, the event's namesake and the only captain Continental Europe has ever had, will serve as event host, while handing the captaincy reins over to Olazabal. Traditionally, the two captains -- Colin Montgomerie is the GBI captain -- also play a head-to-head singles match on the final day.

Great Britain & Ireland leads the all-time standings, 2-1.

Olazabal has been a member of the Continental Europe team in each of the previous three contests. His current record in the event stands at five wins, six losses and three draws.
