Vijay Singh closes in on No.1 spot again

Vijay Singh secured his third PGA Tour title of the season when he beat Sergio Garcia and Jim Furyk in a play-off to win the Wachovia Championship. Singh closes the gap on Tiger Woods at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking to less than 0.2 average points. Garcia climbs a place to World Number 8 while Furyk improves his World Ranking by 8 places to 18th.

Steve Webster picked up 5 birdies in his last 10 holes to claim the Telecom Italia Open title by 3 strokes. In his 10th year as a professional this maiden victory has moved Webster into the World Top 150 with a climb from 228th to 140th.

Choi Kyung-Ju returned to his home country Korea and won the S K Telecom from American Fred Couples and Australian Andrew Buckle. Choi moves up 5 places to World Number 27.

The week’s other winners were Eric Axley at the Rex Hospital Open on the Nationwide Tour, Olivier David at the FIRSTPLUS Wales Challenge on the European Challenge Tour and Jaime Gomez at the Corona Mazatlan Classic on the Canadian Tour.
