Geoff Ogilvy moves to World No.8

Geoff Ogilvy won the U.S. Open at Winged Foot by a stroke from Jim Furyk, Colin Montgomerie and Phil Mickelson, with a final round of 72 for a 5 over par total of 285. Ogilvy, who began 2006 as World Number 50, has now won a World Golf Championship and a Major Championship in the year and moves into the World Top 10 in 8th position, an improvement on the week of 9 places.

Cesar Monasterio from Argentina won the Aa St Omer Open, a dual ranking tournament between the European Tour and Challenge Tour. The win takes Monasterio to 285th in the Official World Golf Ranking, a rise of 277 positions.

On the Japan Golf Tour Nobuhiro Masuda won the Mandom Lucido Yomiuri Open and climbs to World Number 344.

This week’s other winners were Hunter Haas at the Knoxville Open on the Nationwide Tour, Kalle Brink at the Lexus Open on the European Challenge Tour and Lee Williamson at the Greater Vancouver Charity Classic on the Canadian Tour.
