Jay Haas breaks cuts record

By taking a break from the Champions Tour to play the U.S. Open, Jay Haas set a new record on the PGA Tour. By making the cut at Winged Foot, where he ultimately tied for 37th, Haas broke the PGA Tour record for most cuts made in a career, with his U.S. Open made cut coming as the 591st of his career.

He had been tied with Tom Kite at 590 cuts made. Kite tried to tie Haas again by playing at the Booz Allen Classic, but missed the cut there.

Haas has made at least one cut every year since he made his first cut at the 1973 Greater Greensboro Open, when he was an amateur. He also made cuts as an amateur once in 1974 and again in 1975 before he turned pro. He made his 100th cut at the 1981 Masters Tournament, his 200th cut at the 1985 U.S. Open, and his 500th cut at the 2000 PGA Championship.
