Laura Davies wins Volvo Cross Country Challenge

England 's Laura Davies added another title to her impressive resume by winning the Ladies European Tour's Volvo Cross Country Challenge order of merit – a mini tour based on the four tournaments in Sweden , Norway , Finland and Denmark .

The former world number one ended a 29-month run without a victory at the SAS Masters in Norway two weeks ago - and also had strong finishes in the other three tournaments in Scandinavia , finishing in tied second in the final event.

At the Nykredit Masters in Denmark , she shared second place with England 's Trish Johnson on 11-under-par, four shots behind the winner Karen Magrethe Juul of Demark, who won on 15-under 273.

Davies won a first prize of US$30,000 (£16,000) and a Volvo XC70 car.

"I'm delighted to win the Volvo Cross Country Challenge and it's been a great season so far," said Davies, who began 2006 with seven missed cuts from eight tournaments on the LPGA Tour in the United States .

“It's something that I've been trying to achieve over the last few weeks and it's nice to have achieved a goal.”

The four time major winner is now on course to top the New Star Money List for a record seventh time in her 21-year career. She leads over French woman Gwladys Nocera with 446,352 euros.

“Gwladys (Nocera) played well again today so I've improved a little bit on her but not enough. I understand she's not playing next week in Austria so I have a chance to go ahead but then I'm not playing in Dubai so she'll have the chance to come past me again. It will be an interesting race to the death,” Davies said.

"I've really enjoyed playing in Europe over the last few weeks and it would be nice to have another chance to win again next week.”

Davies will play in the Siemens Austrian Ladies Open presented by Uniqa ne xt week, which will be her final event of the season in Europe .
