London Golf Show opens in Docklands

The second London Golf Show - the largest consumer golf show in Europe – is open at ExCel in London’s Docklands until Sunday.

Covering an area the size of seven full-size football pitches, it is a golfing theme park with something for everyone. Last year’s show attracted almost 35,000 visitors and expectations are higher for this year.

An enormous 1500 square metre golf shop with all the latest equipment, fashion, accessories and gadgets, staffed by professional golfers, is offering substantial discounts for the four days, leaving visitors looking like kids in a candy store.

A 27 bay indoor driving range will see some quarter of a million golf balls hit over the four days by golfers trying out all the big brand clubs. There are trick-shot demonstrations, fashion shows, and dozens of prize competitions on the putting and chipping greens, long-driving and hole-in-one simulators and a floating green anchored 122 yards out in the middle of the Thames.

Every kind of golfing fashion from traditional to way-out is on offer, along with accessories to satisfy the most demanding gadget freaks.

Exhibitors also include a very strong line-up of travel products, from individual golf resorts around the world to countries promoting golf as their new destination.

Tuition and game-improvement aids feature strongly, along with a strong contingent of health and fitness exhibitors.

For celebrity watchers, there are personal appearances by many famous names whose golf is not their main claim to fame, as they willingly demonstrate.

Ticket prices at the door are £15 for adults and £10 pounds for 16 year olds and under, but with abundant freebies on offer as well as bargains in the retail outlets, any golfaholic should be well in pocket after a day at the show.

The show is open from 10am to 6pm on Friday 28 and Saturday 29, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 30 April, and will be found just a few hundred yards from Custom House station on the London Docklands Light Railway line.
