Michelle Wie aiming to make cut this time

Professional golfer Michelle Wie said Monday she wished to play well when she tees up against men this week -- her eighth attempt to make the cut in a men's tournament.

"There was something unsatisfactory at each of the previous games" against men, Wie said at a news conference in Incheon, a city adjacent to the capital Seoul and where the Asian Tour's SK Telecom Open will kick off Thursday.

"If I play well with maximum efforts and try to have fun while I play, I think I will be satisfied," Wie said in Korean. "I really wish to play well."

The 16-year-old Wie has failed to make the cut in her previous appearances at men's events, including four tournaments on the PGA Tour. No woman has made the cut on the PGA Tour since Babe Zaharias in 1945.

It is Wie's first visit to South Korea, where both her parents were born, as a professional golfer. She was born and raised in Hawaii, but her Korean background has prompted many South Koreans to regard her as one of their own, calling her more often by her Korean name -- Wie Sung-mi.
