England's Graeme Storm fired the best round of the day to move into the hunt at the New Zealand Open.
Storm shot a 6-under 65 Saturday to tie Australians Kim Felton and Marcus Fraser for the lead after 54 holes at the 6,953-yard Gulf Harbor Country Club. The trio is 5-under 208 for the tournament.
Despite windy conditions, Storm got his round off to a dramatic start when he eagled the par-5, 523-yard second hole. He also made four birdies in a bogey-free round to make the biggest push toward the top.
After two days of rain, Storm was able to make the most of the improved course conditions.
"I was out early so I was able to capitalize on the weather," Storm said. "I'm very happy to be in with 6-under for the day and 5-under for the tournament."
Although forced to tee off in the strong afternoon wind, Felton and Fraser quickly found themselves well ahead of the fragmented field with composed performances.
Felton opened with three consecutive birdies and added two more. However, he made bogeys at the ninth and 17th holes and settled for a 68.
After Friday's double-bogey on No. 9, Fraser made a bogey on the same hole Saturday and recorded another at the 18th to sign for a 70.
Former U.S. Open winner Michael Campbell of New Zealand finished his round with a 73 and is in a four-way tie for second with Australians Peter Senior (71), Peter O'Malley (66) and Spain's Carl Suneson (69). They are one stroke back.
Second-round leader Nick Dougherty of England collapsed with an 8-over 79 to fall nine shots off the pace. He made a triple-bogey on No. 2 and followed that with seven bogeys, including six on his final 11 holes.
