Paul Casey, who won the HSBC World Match Play Championship and was unbeaten in The Ryder Cup, has been named The European Tour Golfer of the Month for September, tour officials have announced.
Casey, 29, produced the biggest finals victory in the 43-year history of the HSBC World Match Play, defeating Shaun Micheel of the United States by a 10 & 8 margin in the 36-hole final over the West Course at the Wentworth Club, and his victory boosted him to the top of the European Tour Order of Merit.
He then moved on to the K Club, where he played a crucial role in Europe?s record-equaling defense of the Ryder Cup. Unbeaten in his four matches, Casey also produced the shot of the week when he holed-in-one on the 14th hole during the Saturday fourball match with David Howell to close out their match with Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson, 5 & 4.
