Jim Furyk vaults four shots clear

Jim Furyk shot a 6-under 66 Friday for a four-shot lead after the second round of the Nedbank Challenge.

Furyk's round featured six birdies. He has not dropped a shot in two rounds at the Gary Player Country Club.

The defending champion's immaculate approach play gave him even more birdie chances as he pushed overnight leader Henrik Stenson into second place.

Stenson struggled off the tee to finish at 1-under 71 for the day, and fell four shots off Furyk's pace.

Ernie Els completed a 5-under 67 to lift himself into contention, also four shots back. He hit seven birdies, but bogeyed the two par-fives on the back nine to spoil what could have been an even better round.

"They felt like double-bogeys. I basically gave the guys almost three shots on the field there," Els said.

Charl Schwartzel finished the day in third place, five shots behind after a 69.

Colin Montgomerie took a quintuple bogey nine at the par-four 11th. He drove into the rough and his next three shots all hit trees before he eventually found the greenside bunker. It took him two more shots to get out of the sand and two putts to finish with a nine.

He was last in the 12-man field with an overall 152 -- 18 shots behind Furyk.
