GREAT GIFTS FOR GOLFERS

Jim Furyk maintains advantage

American Jim Furyk held a three-stroke lead over Ireland's Padraig Harrington after the third round of the Sun City Golf Challenge on Saturday.

Furyk carded his third consecutive bogey-free round, shooting 68 at the Gary Player Country Club. That moved him to 14-under par 202 in the elite 12-man field.

Harrington carded 65, the low round of the tournament, which included 13 consecutive one-putts and 22 putts overall to move to 11-under 205.

South Africa's Ernie Els and Sweden's Henrik Stenson were tied for third at seven-under 209 after rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.

"I believe I have played 54 holes bogey-free before, but I'm not sure," Furyk said. "It's not important to me - obviously you don't want to make bogeys but I would rather have made six birdies and a bogey and shot five-under."

Harrington made five consecutive birdies between the third and the seventh hole and then added two more birdies on the ninth and 10th - both par fives - after a bogey at the eighth.

"You can hit as many good putts as you like but some days they don't drop," Harrington said. "Today I could hit a bad putt and it was going to drop. I had the feeling that whatever I hit was going to go into the hole.

"I genuinely can't explain it, it's just random at the end of the day."
