Tiger Woods to play in Dubai again in 2007

Tiger Woods has agreed to defend his Dubai Desert Classic title in 2007, tournament organizers have announced.

In fact, a new contract between Woods and Dubai Desert Classic officials calls for Woods to compete in the early-season European Tour event at least three times in the next four years. The 2007 edition of the tournament is tentatively set for January or February.

"We are naturally delighted and proud to announce that Tiger Woods has again agreed to join us for the Dubai Desert Classic," Golf in Dubai Chairman Mohamed Alabbar told Reuters Tuesday. "Having the world's greatest golfer play in your event is something many tournament organizers can only dream about, so for us to be able to welcome him again to the Majlis Course is a major boost for golf in the Middle East, especially Dubai."

"I always enjoy visiting Dubai. It's an extremely hospitable place where the people and the tournament organizers treat the players so well," Woods said in a statement.

"The level of competition is always extremely high so I know I'll have to play my best golf if I'm going to retain my title," he added. "But it's a great venue, the course is always in immaculate condition and the weather reminds me of Florida."

Woods, 30, won the 2006 Dubai Desert Classic in February, beating world No. 5 Ernie Els, a two-time Desert Classic winner, in a playoff.
