Druids Glen,
Dublin, 3rd July - Severiano Ballesteros has finally announced
that he will not be the playing captain in the Ryder Cup this year.
He shot a round of 75 in the first round of the Murphy's Irish Open
which put him 10 shots off the leader Lee Westwood. He was playing
his first tournament since withdrawing from the Volvo PGA Championship
because of back problems.
Ballesteros
said " The way I am playing it would not be fair to pick myself
unless things change dramatically. It seems to me not possible to
play and be the captain and do a good job. Unless there is a miracle,
I will not be playing."
"I don't
need anyone to tell me .The more I thought about it, the more I
knew what to do. I didn't think there would be so much talk about
the Ryder Cup when I took on the job. I am just trying to handle
it the best I can and wait for the Matches to begin. Today my 75
was the best score I could have done!"
