London,
8th May - Car loving tour professional Darren Clarke has been
given an extra incentive for making this year's European Ryder Cup
team with the promise of a new car by sponsors MacGregor.
The golf equipment
company, which this year is celebrating its 100th anniversary, will
give the 28 year-old Irishman a Ferrari 355 if he makes the team
and wins at least two of his matches.
And in addition
Clarke could win another of the famous sports cars if he tops this
year's European Tour Volvo Order of Merit.
MacGregor told
Clarke of his potential bonus when they agreed a further three year
sponsorship contract with him at the recent KPMG Golf Show in Birmingham.
The new deal takes the company to six years and he will be playing
MacGregor club's and using MacGregor headwear.
"Making
the Ryder Cup team will be enough thrill but if I can drive away
in a Ferrari then it will just complete the occasion for me. I love
cars and a Ferrari has always been at the top of my shopping list,"
said Darren who is currently lying fifth in the Ryder Cup rankings.
Clarke, who
is based in Portrush, Northern Ireland, has twice won on the European
Tour since turning pro in 1990.
Robert Allenby,
the 25 year old from Melbourne, Australia celebrated the start of
his season on the European Tour by signing a three year contract
with MacGregor. He will play the Macgregor VIP clubs and carry their
bag.
