Lorenzi
to captain WPEG team to play against PGA Seniors
London,
27th August - Marie-Laure de Lorenzi, from France, is to
captain of the Women Professional Golfers' European team that will
play against the European PGA Senior Tour in the inaugural Praia
D'El Rey European Cup at Praia D'El Rey, Portugal, from 14th - 16th
November
The Cup is
a ten-a-side match, and the women's side will be made up of the
top eight available players from Order of Merit after the Air France
Open de Deauville 24th - 26th October plus the captain's two choices.
"It is
a great honour to be chosen to captain the side, although I know
I wasn't the first choice," said Marie-Laure. "The problem
is that no one knows much about the match, and I don't know if many
of the top players are going to be available. "But I am going
out to the venue next month and, hopefully, we will manage to clarify
a few aspects."
At present
none of the top players - Annika Sorenstam, Laura Davies or US Open
Champion Alison Nicholas - have committed themselves to an event
that falls at a time when they will be competing in Japan.
Tommy Horton
is to captain the PGA Seniors side.
