17th April - Michael Williams, the well-known golf correspondent
of the Daily Telegraph in London, died today at the age of 63, after
collapsing on the golf course.
Michael had
just returned form America after reporting on Tiger Woods' win in
The Masters last weekend. He was playing golf with his son, Roddy
at Chelmsford Golf Club in Essex when he collapsed. The cause of
death has not been revealed.
Williams was
a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in Scotland and had
been a member of the Association of Golf Writers since 1971. He
was also editor of the Golfers Handbook.
"Michael
will be missed by everyone in the sport," said Michael Bonallack,
secretary of the R & A. "He was a wonderful friend of golf
and reported not only because it was his job, but also because he
loved it."
