R & A goes live with its own Internet site

Fife, Scotland, 1st May - The complete rules of golf in seven languages is one of the items included in the new internet site (http://www.RandA.org) launched today by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

The rules are shown in English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish, the principal languages of over 100 worldwide golfing unions and associations who are affiliated to the R & A.

In addition to the Rules visitors to the site will be able to find information on the history of the R & A and its principal functions, as well as details of its championships, including past champions, future venues and conditions of entry and how to purchase tickets.

Golf club officials are catered for with a guide to the Duties of a Rules Official, a guide for organisers and sponsors of amateur golf events in addition to a guide to the making of local rules. This section also contains recommendations regarding hole positions for championship, guidelines for the suspension of play and guidelines for team matches.

A 'Notice Board' will give visitors up-to-date news from the R & A on its activities in promoting golf throughout the world.
