1st May - The complete rules of golf in seven languages is one
of the items included in the new internet site (http://www.RandA.org) launched today by the Royal
& Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
The rules are
shown in English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish
and Swedish, the principal languages of over 100 worldwide golfing
unions and associations who are affiliated to the R & A.
In addition
to the Rules visitors to the site will be able to find information
on the history of the R & A and its principal functions, as
well as details of its championships, including past champions,
future venues and conditions of entry and how to purchase tickets.
Golf club officials
are catered for with a guide to the Duties of a Rules Official,
a guide for organisers and sponsors of amateur golf events in addition
to a guide to the making of local rules. This section also contains
recommendations regarding hole positions for championship, guidelines
for the suspension of play and guidelines for team matches.
A 'Notice Board'
will give visitors up-to-date news from the R & A on its activities
in promoting golf throughout the world.
