Solheim Cup to be played at Sunningdale

Sunningdale, Berkshire, 28 May - The world-renowned Sunningdale Golf Club has been chosen as the venue for The Solheim Cup in 2000.

Terry Coates, chief executive of the Women's Professional Golfers' European Tour said " This is a very exciting decision for a very special year and promises to produce the greatest women's golf event ever to be played on this side of the Atlantic. Without doubt Sunningdale, which will be celebrating its own centennial year in 2000, is a fantastic venue which will provide the perfect showcase for the best women professional golfers from both sides of the Atlantic to compete for the most coveted team prize in women's professional golf.

The WPG European Tour will work in conjunction with the International Management Group to stage the event.

The Solheim Cup sponsored by the Karsten Manufacturing Corp and named after the company's founder Karsten Solheim is the biennial transatlantic team match play competition between the WPGET and the LPGA.

The US currently lead the Europeans by three wins to one after its victory last year at St Pierre.

The fifth Solheim Cup will be staged at Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio from 18th - 20th September 1998.
