Three former
USGA champions, plus Steve Scott, 19, who was runner-up in the 1996
US Amateur, have been selected to represent the United States in
this year's Walker Cup that takes place on 9th - 10th August at
Quaker Ridge Golf Club, N.Y.
The final team
members as well as three alternates will be announced later based
on their amateur record over the past two years.
Those named
already are Duke Delcher, Brad Elder, Joel Kribel and Randy Leen,
along with the 1995 US Mid-Amateur Champion, Jerry Courville, the
1993 US Amateur Champion, John Harris and the 1995 Amateur Public
Links winner, Chris Wellman.
Steve Sctott
was runner-up to Tiger Woods in the 1996 US Amateur when he lost
on the 38 hole in the final.
Of those chosen,
Courville and Harris, were members of the losing US team in 1995
when Great Britain & Ireland won by 14-10.
The Walker
Cup is played every two years alternating with the US and Great
Britain & Ireland. The match consists consists of eight foursomes
and 16 singles played over two days.
