USGA finalise Walker Cup team

Jason Gore and Buddy Marucci have been selected as the final two members of the team to represent the US in the Walker Cup that takes place at Quaker Ridge Golf Club, Scarsdale N.Y. on 9th - 10th August.

Gore and Murruci now join the eight other members of the team that have already been chosen by the USGA on the basis of their amateur record over the past two years.

Gore (23) is from Valancia, Calif and has won both the California Amateur and the California Open in 1997 making him the first player since 1942 to win both events.

Marruci (45) of Malvern, Pa was the 1995 US Amateur runner-up to Tiger Woods and he reached the quarter finals of the 1996 Amateur. He was also a member of the 1995 US Walker Cup team.

In addition Charles Warren (22) of Columbia, S.C., Tom McKnight (42) of Galax, Va., and John 'Spider' Miller (47) of Bloomington. Ind., were selected as first, second and third alternates, respectively.

The complete 10-man team to represent Great Britain and Ireland was announced last week by the Royal & Ancient in St Andews.
