Women's committee elected

Hills, N.J.- The United States Golf Association has announced
it has elected Joan Birland of Denver, Colorado. as head of the
it's Women's Committee. This will be her second consecutive one-year
term.
The 24-member
committee oversees the U.S. Women's Amateur, the U.S. Women's Open
and the Curtis Cup Match when it was conducted in the United States.
The Women's Committee also selects the players who represent the
U.S. on the Curtis Cup and Women's World Amateur teams and directs
the 300 volunteers who serve on seven USGA women's committees.
Joan Birkland
served as the group's vice chairman for two years before she was
promoted as chairman. A committee member since 1981, Birkland is
one of only six women to be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall
of Fame.
Also, Mary
Capouch of Mandeville, La. will also serve another consecutive one-year
term as vice chairman.
