Kim Rostron gets call to play in Curtis Cup team

London - Kim Rostron of Lamcashire, who won the British Women's Amateur Championship last week, had another reason to celebrate on Monday when she was named in the Britain and Ireland team to defend the Curtis Cup in Minneapolis on 1st - 2nd August.

The side to face America has three survivors of the team which won 11 1/2-6 1/2 at Killarney two years ago - Scot Alison Rose, last year's British champion, Cheshire's Elaine Ratcliffe and Kent's Karen Stupples.

England provide five of the eight-strong side, Rostron, Ratcliffe and Stupples being joined by 19-year-old Rebecca Hudson, from Doncaster, and 1996 cup reserve Fiona Brown, from Hoylake.

The others chosen are Scottish international Hilary Monaghan and Wales' Becky Morgan which means for the second match running Ireland are unrepresented, Suzanne O'Brien being made second reserve.

Team: F Brown (Heswall, age 24), R Hudson (Wheatley, 19), H Monaghan (Heriot Watt University, 23), B Morgan (Monmouth, 23), E Ratcliffe (Sandiway, 25), A Rose (Stirling, 30), K Rostron (Clitheroe, 24), K Stupples (Royal Cinque Ports, 25).

Non-playing captain: I Butler.

Reserves: E Pilgrim (Celtic Manor), S O'Brien (Milltown), A Laing (Vale of Leven), L Nicholson (Heriot Watt University).
