"The initials
LPGA are synonymous with success in women's golf. The success of
the Ladies' Professional Golf Association in America has seen the
title LPGA receive global recognition. We believe it is the ideal
launchpad for the next stage of the development of women's professional
golf in Europe," commented John Mort, European LPGA managing
director.
In addition,
the European LPGA announced a preliminary 1998 schedule. The schedule
gets under way with the Evian Masters in June, includes eight order
of merit events, an end of the season challenge match against the
Seniors' Tour, and the fifth Solheim Cup to be played at Muirfield
Village in Dublin, Ohio.
More events
are expected to be announced as plans are finalised.
