Son of Christy O'Connor Jnr killed in car crash

Co. Galway, Ireland - The 17-year-old son of Christy O'Connor Jr. was killed in a car accident Sunday night, according to the Irish-Independent newspaper.

Darren O'Connor was one of three people killed in the crash, involving the O'Connor family's BMW and an Isuzu trooper traveling in the opposite direction. He was pronounced dead at University College Hospital in Gallway.

Two others were also killed in the crash.

An accomplished player, O'Connor was runnerup in the Irish Boys Championship.

His father, Christy O'Connor Jr., finished tied for fourth this weekend in the Golden Charters Seniors Open. His grandfather, Christy O'Connor Sr., played golf with President Clinton at Ballybunion on Saturday.

Christy Jr. and his wife Ann have two other children, Nigel, 19, and Aine, 21.
