American Golf
buys St Mellion golf complex
St
Mellion, Cornwall - American Golf, the largest operator
of private golf courses in the world, has purchased the St Mellion
International complex in Cornwall for a price of between £13 million
-£14 million.
The sale was
completed by golf property experts, Chesterton HMH within a four
month period via a private placement.
The St Mellion
golf complex was created during the 1970s when Hermon and
Martin Bond, two farming brothers, built an 18-hole golf course
on their potato farm. It was later developed into 36-holes when
Jack Nicklaus was commissioned to build a championship standard
course.It has been the host to numerous professional events including
the Benson & Hedges International.
The sale this
week included the 36 holes of golf (it is the first Nicklaus course
to be offered for sale in Europe), the clubhouse with health and
fitness club, hotel block, timeshare, residential properties, development
land and various consents.
