New managing director for WPGET

The Woman's Professional Golfers European Tour has just anounced the appointment of John Mort to a new post of managing director.

A self-confessed "golf nut", John Mort is a business studies graduate from Liverpool University and spent a number of years in the accountancy business before joining the WPGET on the finance side in 1992. Two years later, he became a tournament director.

"There have been so many rumours over the winter about the plight of the tour, but we are now ready to look forward," said Mort. "It has been a difficult time, but I have been encouraged by the support from our sponsors and the other golfing bodies.

He is confident that the tournament schedule, to be revealed shortly, will reach double figures this year.

The first event will be the Evian Masters in the first week of June, and then follows a five-week gap during the football World Cup in France.
